This is a recipe for one of my favorite styles of sauce, a Kansas City style sauce that is very approachable and familiar to most. It’s a bit on the thick and sweet side, which makes it the perfect side to grilled meats that have been rubbed with a spicy seasoning. Give it a shot the next time you fire up the grill.

Heat a large saucepan over medium heat and add butter, onions, garlic, cinnamon, and cloves. Cook until onions are softened.
Stir in remaining ingredients. Simmer until thickened.
Strain to remove solids and cool.
Use as a basting sauce or finishing sauce for grilled or smoked meats.
